A Patinated Bronze Sculpture of a Boy with a Goose

$2,200.00

After the Hellenistic original, apparently by the sculptor Boethus, a marble variant of which can be found in the Louvre. This sculpture, along with the Dying Gaul and the Scythian Knifemaker, has rightly become a touchstone of the dynamism, fluidity, and idiosyncratic quality of sculpture from the Hellenistic era, the era that came after the “high classical” Hellenic period. The replica under discussion here was produced by the Barbedienne Foundry of Paris in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Everything is impeccably incised, detailed, and patinated in the trademark Barbedienne manner.

Measures: 260 x 210 x 145 mm.
