A mantle clock of very good quality from the French Restoration period c 1820.  The neoclassical character represents the shepherd Paris, with requisite stick and hat, admiring a butterfly (note: the butterfly appears to be a later brass replacement). The bronze dial is inlaid in a garland of finely-worked ivy leaf, and at the top sits a lyre. The rectangular base is decorated with a wide garland chiseled with fruit and featuring attributes of war and music. The feet take the form of palmettes, a nice touch. The mechanism is original and without modification and includes a pendulum and key.
